I have been working at University of Cambridge full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The history and reputation of the university give it a great gravitational pull, so you will literally work and study with excellent people from around the world. It is located in a beautiful town, near to London, with a high quality of life.

    Cons

The history and culture is have a lot of inertia, and most administrative decisions are made based on precedent. The complex interactions between colleges and departments, and the lack of a clear central authority, make for a diverse range of climates. None of these are "cons," per se, but they are important characteristic of the culture.

    Pros

Good central location, many colleagues are very pleasant, interesting work and fairly flexible hours, there are some good training opportunities.

    Cons

High pressure, some difficult people, and the pay wasn't particularly great, my contract was not extended even though I know that I did a good job and met all my targets.

I worked at University of Cambridge as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Facilities, resources and staff benefits are all excellent - the University Centre, CamBens employee benefits and the Careers Service are all great but often under-utilised.

    Cons

Sometimes the sheer weight of the institution can hold up the administrative side of things - it's best to make allies of your support staff so they can guide you through.
