I worked at University of Central Florida part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Flexible schedules
    - 4 hour shifts
    - Ability to drop and pick up shifts
    - Ability to do homework on shift when not attending to a student
    - Basic customer service job
    - Lots of opportunity to move up to supervisor and management positions
    - Great job to work as a student

    Cons

    - Group interview session is hard to stand out.
    - Can get a little boring and repetitive sometimes. (I recommend moving up to a better position)
    - Assigned to work an overnight every 3 weeks. No pay increase for that shift. It is possible to drop the shift but not many people will pick it up.

    Advice to Management

I didn't find the staff retreats very helpful. I think there should be a smaller retreat separate from the other departments so I can get to know others in my department better. Just for GSA's and GSS's.

I have been working at University of Central Florida full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Still a fairly young organization willing to try out new ideas. Breadth and diversity of initiatives campus wide. Increasing talent pool of faculty. Opportunities to engage with students, new ideas, and explore areas of personal interest.

    Cons

Bureaucracy of a public institution. - some of it imposed by state and federal requirements, some of it self-made. Very little unity of effort across colleges and divisions works against efficiency and impact.

    Advice to Management

Vision and priorities are clear. Deep dive needed to consolidate duplicate functions that evolved in the years of rapid growth. Fight to reduce bureaucracy. Embrace and invest in emerging non-traditional education pathways for existing workforce.

I have been working at University of Central Florida full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great for working while you complete a degree. Never have to ask for holidays off. Friendly and encouraging atmosphere where they're interested in developing their employees.

    Cons

Not a ton of salaried positions available. The usual red-tape annoyances that come with most large companies.

    Advice to Management

Continue innovating and don't be afraid to be the first one to try out a new concept.

I have been working at University of Central Florida full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

University seems to be ok, with starting with recruiting outside people.

    Cons

Once, you are looking to gain more experience and be compensated for it, some in upper management will not support you. Then again these same individuals are not the ones that give you, your daily assignments, or ask those whom you actually work with on the daily basis about your performance. So it is easier for them to say that you performance is ok, but not worthy of a pay raise. You have to be OUTSTANDING!

    Advice to Management

Immediate supervisors, if you are evaluating you should do your due diligence and gather data on your employees performance. Especially if you do not really supervise them at all.

I worked at University of Central Florida full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

UCF was great! I gained so much knowledge during my time there and the benefits are great.
If you work there as a full-time with benefits employee, you can take 6 credit hrs (2 classes) per semester free, you can gain a degree almost free.

And plus, now you can use that same benefit for your child or spouse, if they want to gain a degree at UCF.

    Cons

none that I can think of.
