    Pros

There's a steady paycheck and benefits. If you get tenure, you can die here -- RIP.

Living in Cincinnati is super super easy and inexpensive.

The ER is excellent. I injured myself on campus once (UC was not at fault, just accident prone me), and they stitched me up in time for class.

    Cons

I've been a professor at 3 other Colleges or Universities. Academia in general is not in great shape all-over, but UC makes my previous jobs (even the one for a for-profit institution) look amazing.

If I could afford it, I'd go back to my job as a barrista I had in the1990s.

What really gets me is that the hostile work environment, pressure, politics, and cronyism just hurts the students. The students lose when the administration is continuously playing musical chairs, erecting buildings before they have a purpose or even faculty, and ignoring issues of race, gender, and equality.

The propaganda is thick, as UC proclaims everything with a bright red banner. It's just sad, though, when you walk into a building that has a huge banner reading "ranked 89th best school of education". Is that really banner worthy? How about spending that banner money on education so UC can climb to 88th...

My nightmare has largely been due to problems in my local unit. Other units are not so dysfunctional. However, it is VERY clear that most of the university is on a downhill slide.

However, the medical school, hospital, health research, and pharmacy seem to be doing great. The faculty I know who work in those areas seem pretty happy, and the students too. So, not everything is so bad.

    It's in Cincinnati.

    Advice to Management

Give the land grant back to Ohio.

I have been working at University of Cincinnati full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I believe in the higher education mission. Nice energy of a university campus. Good benefits and retirement match, lots of PTO and tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

A lot depends on the environment of your college/department and manager. It can be a big bureaucracy. Doesn't move quickly. You're not going to make the highest salary.
