I worked at University of Colorado full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Flexible workplace. Benefits are ok.

    Cons

Pay is far, far below the average in our field. Most PRAs only take these jobs looking to apply to med/graduate school. PIs expect top-quality committed and passionate people, who will be available at all hours of the day and night and on weekends to run experiments and check on equipment. CU pays highly qualified researchers less than administrative assistants make at firms in Denver. Many PI's are very poor managers. Lack of room for advancement. Benefits are mediocre- not nearly good enough to compensate for low pay.
