While the work culture at UConn Health is fantastic, there is a serious state budget deficit which is affecting UConn.

Job security is questionable in the current fiscal environment

I have been working at University of Connecticut Health Center part-time

    Pros

Great place for a grad student to work, and will help with your tuition. You'll learn a lot, and get your name on some good research projects.

    Cons

If you're in one of the satellite offices, it can get isolated really fast. Not too many opportunities for promotion.

I have been working at University of Connecticut Health Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A very collaborative environment and a great PhD program in Immunology. You get to learn a lot from students and all the professors. Flow cytometry facility and all core facilities are easily accessible and greatly managed. So its very easy to get to use instruments needed for your work.

    Cons

Projects in all the labs may not be directly applicable to human work or their may not be any disease connection to your work. Which can come in your way when you are competiting with other students after PhD to find jobs. But research done is sound and good and one gets to learn lot.

    Advice to Management

    None at this point.
