Lovely work and social environment, no day was a dull day working at the University of Delaware.

      Cons

Cannot really think of any, overall I had a very positive time being employed under different departments.

      Pros

Great campus, wonderful graduate students and events, workplace full of helpful people

      Cons

Some departments (like mine) were not very inclusive of their graduate students with the faculty, whereas other departments integrated graduate students and faculty as one unit.

      Pretty decent for grad students

      Pros

The teaching load was reasonable and allows you to focus on your studies; it's fine and even expected to prioritize your own course work and research over teaching and grading. Pay was decent by TA standards and student health insurance is better than what you would get with Obamacare. Other grad students were a nice group. We didn't experience the cutthroat competition that you see at some universities.

      Cons

Almost everyone is overtly liberal politically and if you're not, best to keep quiet about it. Some faculty take out their conflicts with each other on students. Administrators get paid ridiculously well and adjunct faculty get poverty level wages but that's true everywhere. There's no career counseling for PhD students who aren't seeking academic positions; at least there wasn't while I was there.

      Good graduate research programs

Jul 16, 2021 - Research Assistant in Newark, DE
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Limitless opportunities for collaborative research, especially in engineering. Great collegial environment to network and connect with researchers in variety if fields. Principal investigators in engineering programs are highly respected in the field.

      Cons

Limited availability and access to computational resources and lack of robust computing infrastructure. Most computational research is done in collaboration with other institutions.

      Pros

You have a lot of freedom. The Delaware is free of tax. You can save a lot of money.

      Cons

The ranking of Udel is not so attracting.
