    Pros

    Decent overall salary within sector.

    Cons

Internal politics. Traditional way of thinking. Many committees and unwilling to break free with new modern ways of working

Follow due process for appointing or upgrading staff.

    Pros

Work on interesting research topics, flexible working hours, independence, 33 days of holiday

    Cons

Feels under-appreciated, dealing with technicians is a nightmare (almost the same mentality in every university I worked for)

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Small city with beautiful surroundings. A sense of growth and future. Good research environment.

    Cons

Big egos and poor managers affecting work environment. Lack of money (deficit) and several recent rounds of "strategic review" (read: getting rid of, in some cases surprisingly good, people). Rapid growth has been at the expense of cohesion.

    Advice to Management

Listen. Don't treat people with a lot of money with kitten gloves, allowing them to get away with nearly anything. Bigger is not always better.

It is not good as a theoretical economics program in England.

No downsides as such. Enjoy working at university. Work quite hard at times but in summer time everything quitens down.
