The University has a great benefit package. Great opportunities to continue education. Flexibility with schedule is great!

I worked at University of Florida part-time

    Pros

Great research coming out of a few departments.

    Cons

Department research across campus is disconnected, several departments separately working on similar projects without collaboration. Faculty compete with students for research and funding. No pay difference for PhD vs Masters level research assistants despite the years of professional and academic difference in skill and ability. Benefits for graduate students are TERRIBLE. If you are a student parent, look elsewhere - UF is not the place for you regardless of academic department.

    Advice to Management

If you want to be a Level 1 research institution, you have to support the people that do most of the grunt work. Namely, the graduate student assistants. Pay living wages, most graduate students qualify for food stamps - this is shameful. Provide comprehensive health benefits.

Have additional graduate parking that faculty cannot use.
