I have been working at University of Hawai'i full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Location is great, beautiful campus
Good place to "work hard and play hard"
    Benefits are decent
    Tuition exemption available for faculty
    Generally people here are friendly

    Cons

    Things move slowly here
     departmental politics is a bummer
People just don't like changes, but sort of engrained in the island's culture though
Hard to purchase supplies and equipments from other states and shipping takes a lot longer and more costly
Difficult to maintain collaboration with other scholars

I have been working at University of Hawai'i part-time

    Pros

Good learning environment. I have learnt a lot as a PhD student. The professors take their time to explain concepts and they are readily available
    People are friendly

    Cons

Low pay as graduate research assistant
Distance is far from the other states. So it is kind of expensive traveling for conferences or for job interviews

    Advice to Management

Please raise the salary for GAs. Hawaii is a very expensive city to live in and the students need to meet up with the standard of living
