I worked at University of Houston part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I was a student graphic designer at the UH Center for Student Media for the majority of a year. You can only be hired in this section while you're a student at UH, so once I graduated that was it. I walked in one day with no appointment, just a resume & a portfolio and they were happy to sit down with me and look at my work for a possible employment. They liked my stuff, so I was called back and hired on the spot. Easiest employment I've ever thought possible. My "advisor" who's basically your boss at this job but with a lot more focus on your personal growth than just getting your job done, was Ana, and she's the nicest person ever. The environment there was really fun, and the hours were as flexible as you needed them to be. Literally you can say in the morning that you have an unexpected appointment with a teacher and they'll say it's fine not to come in. They believe school comes first. You can even be very tired from very little sleep and they'll say it's alright not to come in that day. Also, most employees come in at least 30 minutes after their start time, which is not necessarily good thing but it's awesome to not be penalized for going to panda express and getting lunch before you come in lol. As a graphic designer there I had a lot of work sometimes and barely any others. I worked mainly on advertisement designs for the student publications and such, but I also sometimes had bigger projects like the UH official student calendar, which was very fun to create.

    Cons

Sometimes there wasn't much to do, so I had to stick around texting on my phone for hours. It's great that they let you use your phone when there's nothing to do though. The pay is very low, but that's to be expected for a "practice job" where you're learning the industry and having great help from the pros as you work.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. I loved this experience and will never forget it.
