I have been working at University of Illinois Foundation part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Relaxed, flexible schedule. Make sure you do your work on time and give prior notice if you aren't going to be in the office. Otherwise a good job experience for a student.

    Cons

No direction, stale job duties. It can really help to offer some kind of advancement or more duties so it's less mundane.

I worked at University of Illinois Foundation (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay well for college students, often snacks as well as games. Raises often, and you can come and take as many shifts as you want.

    Cons

Very rude, and racially microagressive. Most of the African Americans were not brought back for the summer. Just stay on your ps and qs

    Advice to Management

Be more polite and less inclined to judge.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at University of Illinois Foundation part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get fed, you get raises each semester automatically also depending upon the way you perform. Pretty social work environment which is awesome. Gives you a chance to get to know people while you work. Pay is good. Scheduling flexible! Also great for a resume, especially for working in business, advertising, or any fundraising capacity.

    Cons

Cold calling can be rough. Lots of hang ups. If you can get over that and disgruntled alumni, you're fine.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at University of Illinois Foundation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to gain experience in Higher-Education fund raising.

    Cons

The University is constantly dealing with internal "Changes" which leaves the Annual Giving department's future "up in the air."

    Advice to Management

Allow the actual members of the Annual Giving team to have more of an impact of the overall decisions of the department, rather than outside "leaders" who are unaware of the detailed inner-workings and requirements needed on a day-to-day basis.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at University of Illinois Foundation part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Can be constantly busy if choosing to work at a time when people are answering their phones. Can get a lot of pledges if you know how to persuade correctly with alumna.

    Cons

Very repetitive. On call for the entire shift with one 10 minute break. Pay is very low for students and no commission for the pledges.

    Advice to Management

Find ways to make the calling more interesting. Different approaches instead of the scenario and only one specific way to respond to that customer.
