I have been working at University of Kansas Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

401k, lots of holidays, ample sick and vacation time. You will have more vacation than you know what to do with. You also get to roll over up to 300 hours to the next year.

    Cons

Poor management. Management does not encourage moving within the company. It also does not give many reviews so you have no idea how you are doing.

    Advice to Management

Actually care about helping your employees progress with KUMC. This would be a great way to retain employees.

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at University of Kansas Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    State employee benefits are exceptional

    Cons

Relying almost exclusively on Tax-payer money, the research labs at this University are at the mercy of the prevailing funding climate. As a student/post doc you will receive little in the way of mentoring save that believed required to support a career as an academic scientist. This in a era when the number of young scientists in the academic health field greatly exceeds demands.

The University is slow to embrace the need to develop commercial relationships or to teach the skills required by industry.

    Advice to Management

Management have too high an opinion of themselves to listen to advice from lesser mortals.
