Pros
Cons
  • The Rochester campus is very inaccessible if the lift is out of order as it's built on a very steep hill and has many many stairs (in 2 reviews)

  • For professional services (non-academic) it is actually quite easy to get a low-level role (in 2 reviews)

More Pros and Cons

I have been working at University of Kent full-time

    Pros

Our park land style Campus makes for a most pleasant place to work. It is really nice to walk around the Campus to meetings and so on through well landscaped grounds with an abundance of wildlife such as squirrels and rabbits running here and there. The student population make the whole place very vibrant and gives a feeling of openness with many people from countries other than the UK.
The policies in place for the well being and respect for peoples protected characteristics are taken seriously and add to the ambience of the Campus

    Cons

Car parking on Campus is not as easy as it used to be.

    Advice to Management

Continue the good work. Our Vice Chancellor Dame Julia Goodfellow setrs a very good example at high levels.

    Pros

    Well aware of employment law;
    Well resourced.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Support staff is not less important or much less contributer than lectures, so would be beneficial if this reflects on the payscales.

I worked at University of Kent part-time

    Pros

Easy relaxed atmosphere, workmates friendly, co-operative. Time can be taken off when needed with no problems from the powers that be.

    Cons

dependent on the modules you are demonstrating for days can be some what fragmented. Such as you may have two modules to demonstrate on the same day one in the morning and the other could be of an early evening.

    Advice to Management

The time table is a little fragmented. Modules could be timed adjacent to each other as some are timed at opposite ends of the day

    Pros

A large organisation with great facilities. I would recommend them to anyone. A very good HR department who were really helpful during a redundancy process.

    Cons

Difficult to drive across Canterbury in the morning to get to the Uni, but this was overcome by leaving early to miss the rush hour. 10 mins earlier made all the difference.
