    Cons

Don't really have anything bad to say. Overall a good company with excellent benefits and good to employees

    Advice to Management

Should hire within first and then seek elsewhere.

I have been working at University of Kentucky full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Considering the cost in a city like Lexjngton, University of Kentucky provides their TA a sufficient living stipend. We do have a great environment for our graduate study.

    Cons

The city is kind of boring. The college itself need to improve their academic level. And we do need more career advice.

    Advice to Management

Everything is fine by me. We have new building opening next fall, and our department is recruiting more professors. Everything looks perfect here.

I have been working at University of Kentucky full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, time off, 200% retirement match, low stress.

    Cons

Lots of politics and favoritism, depending on which College/Department you're in. Some faculty are generally insane. Rare (and small) raises, and HR policies will occasionally prevent you from being raised above incompetents based on seniority.

    Advice to Management

Again, really depends on the College/Department. More reasonable HR policies would be nice.

I worked at University of Kentucky full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Paid tuition as a research assistant was very helpful. I enjoyed my time at University of Kentucky and learned a lot to help my career move forward.

    Cons

Lack of structure in my lab kept me from being as productive as I could be. Must be very independent to be successful.

    Advice to Management

The administration is slow to change policy in the academia. There are office politics which seem to hold back opportunities from students on occasion.

I worked at University of Kentucky part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to work with a diverse group of transportation professionals covering a multitude of transportation-related research topics. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (state DOT) is the primary client.

    Cons

Work at the Kentucky Transportation Center is grant funding dependent, so there is some uncertainty associated with this type of work revenue.

    Advice to Management

Continue to provide value to the primary client, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, and continue seeking research funding for a diverse set of topics.

    Pros

There are many opportunities for Graduate Research Assistants or Teaching Assistants, at least in the hard sciences, so you can make money while getting your graduate degree.

    Cons

The pay could always be higher, but it's competitive with other programs

    Advice to Management

The Physics Department is run well, so I don't have many suggestions.

    Pros

    - Great staff to work with; everyone is very personable and easy to talk to.
    - Tasks are not difficult, little training needed for my job.
    - Flexible work hours.

    Cons

    - Limited to work study students.
    - Set pay scale based on year in school.
    - Small work area, but it depends on which department you work with.

    Advice to Management

Really great people to work with. I enjoyed my time working with the staff and learned useful skills to apply in school and other jobs.
