    Pros

    Great research
    Reasonable salary
    Good variety in the work

    Cons

Budget control and senior management (Dean of college, VC) have no idea how a university operates at ground level

    Advice to Management

Research doesn't always make a huge profit, deal with it

  3. "Former academic staff"

    Pros

There were generally good colleagues who generally pulled their weight. The support staff were generally very good and friendly. The facilities, particularly the library, were very good.

    Cons

Towards the end there was some pressure from upper management who barely knew or appreciated what I did. The IT services was particularly bad, although that improved later on. The bureaucracy.

    Advice to Management

Keep continuing to improve the IT services. Continue to improve a more supportive environment for your staff, particularly in the area of getting grants.

I worked at University of Leicester part-time

    Pros

Freedom to implement own ideas, while also given the training to handle complex situations well. Enjoyed the advice given byy programme administrators

    Cons

Objectives of programme felt uncoordinated, which resulted in a lack of motivation for mentors. Lack of credible enforcement mechanism meant some students lacked engagement with the programme.

    Advice to Management

The programme would benefit from more structure, as well as more scheduled meetings for mentors to share experiences.

    Pros

Ambitious department. Opportunities to work on high profile projects and gain good publications.

    Cons

Department was ran like a dictatorship, with micro management and a lack of responsibility / autonomy given to experienced members of staff. Reliance on approval from the head of department slowed down rate of progress.
