    Positive Outlook

I have been working at University of Manchester full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lots of friendly and collaborative research staff, who are highly skilled and intelligent, meaning that there is a lot of opportunity to learn and progress. There is a lot of postgrad / postdoc led groups for both social activities and career progression sessions. Wide range of research topics, which means that there is scope to learn about, collaborate between or move into varied research areas. Well regarded university that attracts high quality staff and has talks/seminars given by world-leading researchers. Very flexible working environment.

    Cons

A lot of construction work going on for the foreseeable future, although this will eventually lead to modern campus. University-wide re-structuring seems a bit illogical and can be difficult to get to grips with. As this is a large group, it can be easy to go unnoticed if you're not proactive.
