I worked at University of Maryland as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked as a graduate assistant in the School of Public Health during graduate school and had an amazing experience. The staff and faculty are both really passionate about their work, research, and students. The school is growing so there were always lots of exciting new initiatives and events to participate in. Hours were lenient and (most) faculty are understanding of the importance of putting your student 'hat' on first.

    Cons

Some faculty can be pretentious and talk down to those of a perceived lower stature. Pay should have been much better, especially when compared to the cost of living in College Park and surrounding areas, but this is UMD controlled, not SPH.

    Advice to Management

Keep growing the school! Exciting things are ahead!

I worked at University of Maryland full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The University of Maryland, College Park is the flagship institution in the DMV area. It's a great institution of higher learning and you're given the opportunity to learn and improve.

    Cons

When it comes to being given the opportunity and the teaching tools to train, that doesn't always happen if you're not in the inner circle.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in equitable learning and job advancement for everyone. Not just those that are in the "inner circle".
