I have been working at University of Maryland Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great pay and plenty overtime. Your hard work really adds up.

    Cons

Shift is always short and drafting almost every other day. No time to actually enjoy the pay. Clock in, work, clock out, go home and sleep, and repeat the process again. Overtime is not flexible at all. Whether you're ready or not, you must work the next shift, even if it's 2 to 3 days back to back drafts.

    Advice to Management

HIRE MORE PEOPLE. We aren't machines. We've got lives and people who would live to see us. Also open up some PRN positions. People are always looking to make extra money from jobs with flexible hours. Then you wouldn't have to put your core team under so much stress.

I worked at University of Maryland Medical Center full-time

    Pros

    Management maintains a 4:1 patient/nurse ratio.

    Cons

Okay preceptors. Your success with the company depends on who's your preceptor. Some preceptors will not give feedback on your performance but will be quick to report you to management if you make a mistake.

I worked at University of Maryland Medical Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, loved the week on week off followed by a Mon-Fri with holidays off for the admin job. Had many opportunities to shine and voice my opinions.

    Cons

Compensation was very inconsistent. The more responsibilities were given the pay remained the same.

    Advice to Management

More proactive with pay increases to match level of the individual. Listen and make sure your employees are appreciated before they walk.
