I worked at University of Maryland Medical Center full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Learned a lot. Met and helped many people from across Maryland. Co-workers and medical team work together to find the best solution for a patient.

    Cons

Nursing, in general, burns you out after awhile. Day in and day out caring for sick people even when we get sick ourselves. There is nothing noble about putting ourselves always last, in fact it is quite mentally wearing. 12-hour shifts (more like 13) are brutal.

    Advice to Management

I would say to management think of creative ways to staff, i.e four 10s or 32 hours/week plus benefits -- that would allow nurses to be able to effectively recover and continue to serve patients.
