I have been working at University of Maryland Medical Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Working here in the Operating rooms here at Shock Trauma has been a very interesting experience, it has taught men how to commuicate with Dr's on a personal/professional level, just talking with the Dr's learning about different illness and the treatments that are needed has been very helpful, working here can be very uplifting and it can be very sad, but I really like my job.

    Cons

We work 12 hours shifts, I don't see much room for advancement and I feel that they need to look at the pay rate or even at evaluation time they compensate you better than they do.

    Advice to Management

I think we have a good management team and as I said above I think we could be better compensated.

I worked at University of Maryland Medical Center full-time

    Pros

UMMC has a great complement of advanced specialties. The buildings are attractive and offer a nice space to help you clear your mind during your work day.

    Cons

Some say Baltimore is overrated. I disagree - while it is more and more up-and-coming, it remains extremely segregated with most of the city underserved.

    Advice to Management

All employees should have free parking. Do you really want to encourage your employees to walk the streets of Baltimore at all hours as they come and go from their various hospital shifts? Also, there should be more fresh food options in the hospital.

I have been working at University of Maryland Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very good medical, dental, and retirement plans. Dependents can receive significantly reduced price tuition at University of Maryland schools as well as some other Maryland Colleges and Universities.

    Cons

It can be interesting getting into the city. Traffic and parking are extremely variable. Public transportation is available and I would recommend taking it. Some people seem worried about their safety but I've never had a problem or known anyone that has.
