    Positive Outlook

I have been working at University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    UMROI is a small facility

    Cons

UMROI has limited staffing but a lot of staffing needs

    Advice to Management

Consider allowing both the 8hr shifts as well as 12 hour shifts so that people can maintain a work/life balance appropriate for them

    Neutral Outlook

    Pros

    -Extremely friendly staff
    -Understanding managers
    -Interdisciplinary work
    -Patients are treated with respect
    -Regular hours

    Cons

    -Difficult patients
-Doctors who don't understand the role of therapy at times or who constantly put orders in incorrectly
    -Weekend work usually required
-Hospital was being renovated when I was there so this might improve, but some areas of the hospital just seemed very old and dingy (e.g. staff lounge, bathrooms, offices, etc.)

    Pros

It was a small hospital with employees that usually stay an average of 5years or more. The benefits are generous especially the relatively low cost heath insurance.

    Cons

Unfortunately for nurses there is minimal career growth. Many great nurses leave after about 5 years or more to pursue other opportunities. This is because this is a rehab hospital

    Pros

    Free parking
    Great benefits
    Great location
People tend to remain with the organization
New additions to senior management that appears to have a vested interest in the company

    Cons

There are not really any areas for nurses to advance within Kernan. Nurses would have to seek employment within the other hospitals associated with UMMS

    Advice to Management

The management need to listen to the employees that are completing the day to day tasks. We really have great ideas
