    I have been working at University of Memphis full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    The university has ample opportunities for research. Free tuition if you are a full-time employee ; paid parental leave that was just implemented;

    Cons

    If you are a minority, advancement opportunities are very limited regardless of their diversity statement. The university practices the "friends" system which means that they will high their friends or people of their friends instead of advancing the workforce that is already in place. Even though tuition is free, many of the staff chooses not to get an advanced degree due tot the limited opportunity to advance within the university.

    Advice to Management

    Choose to advance your own people who are already employed within the university and pay a living wage for those employees. Even though we are a state school, salaries should match other schools that are similar to us in rating and employees.

    I have been working at University of Memphis full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great benefits, static salary, great for gaining experience

    Cons

    Typical University setting where 10% of the employees do 90% of the work. Additionally, being in the 10% that work very hard doesn't make a bit of difference in regards to salary.

    Advice to Management

    Offer higher raises to employees who do well on reviews instead of doing blanket 3% salary increases sporadically. A great deal of employees here haven't earned a raise and quite a few of my subordinates have more than earned theirs.
