I have been working at University of Miami full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits package. Employees who care about the institution and are passionate about providing good work. Diverse employees.

    Cons

Unclear expectations and goals set up by leaders. Reactive culture always working on trying to fix current/past problems rather than planning for future to avoid the future problems. Double standard environment for faculty & staff employees.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees input rather than depending on costly consultants

I have been working at University of Miami full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Miller School of Medicine campus houses several state-of-the-art scientific facitlities. Buildings are all well-maintenance as is the landscaping. Certain positions give employees considerable latitude in how they conduct their work.

    Cons

    Pay inequities accross positions.

I have been working at University of Miami part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Diversity at many, many levels; Awesome Weather year-round!, Opportunities vs. competition for them makes it possible to know more about what is available to do, teach, or learn.

    Cons

Local rents are skyrocketing; Parking is becoming a premium; Wages are relatively stagnant; Job descriptions don't always match job realities (and typically, the GA ends up doing far more than they are supposed to, and supervisors look away to avoid having to address these realities); no hiring/promoting from within.

    Advice to Management

Be more cognizant of financial realities and trends in the larger Miami community; Do not assume that all diversity is equally celebrated; Try to break down the walls between Graduate students, Staff, and Faculty, since GAs serve all these functions and they are falling under artificial technicalities so that they receive relatively few benefits that they probably deserve.

I have been working at University of Miami full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Weekly Salary, Insurance, vacation, sick time. No time for "team work" in some departments, all depends on upper management.

    Cons

30 minute lunch, its who you know in the system, up management should look into the bias within old employees. But every job has its issues.

    Advice to Management

Review why some employees are leaving or moving out of department.
