I have been working at University of Michigan full-time

    Pros

Excellent brand. The work environment is flexible for family needs, great people, vibrant academic setting, good quality of work available, and cross department interactions. Ann Arbor is great.

    Cons

The University is a set of small entities within a larger organization, so career advancement opportunities can be limited depending on department size. Salary increases are minimal and bonuses do not exist.

    Advice to Management

Performance based incentives and career development plans would be great. One year cliffs for benefits is a serious bummer.

Department can have drama at times.

    Advice to Management

Be more flexible with student schedules

I have been working at University of Michigan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits! A lot of cool events that happen on campus throughout the year for any and all interest areas. Really smart students and pretty dedicated faculty and staff.

    Cons

Sometimes an "elitist" mindset. In non-academic areas or medical areas, pay isn't that great.

    Pros

Fantastic health care benefits, decent stipend, full tuition waiver available to Masters-level students.

Time required for GSI positions vary greatly, as does the investment of professors in their courses. Competitive to get GSI positions.

I worked at University of Michigan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and was an interesting job working in the ER. Co-workers are friendly and hours where flexible.

    Cons

No real advancement opportunities unless you jump around to different departments. Pay was not that great for full time job requiring a degree.
