I have been working at University of Michigan part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Wonderful location, good benefits once you're full-time. I know time off depends on which department you are employed for, but I was promised 12 vacation days/year

    Cons

I have a Bachelor's degree and my offered salary was 30K. I could do the same thing (manage a lab) at another university for way more money and that's taking cost of living into consideration as well. Custodial staff is general paid 30K

    Advice to Management

You have billions and billions of dollars to spend. Use it to pay your employees a wage that allows them to live in the city and have some disposable income. That, or substantially lower your standards for employees.

I have been working at University of Michigan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing benefits, great culture, supportive environment, amazing to work for a university that's really trying to make a difference.

    Cons

Coming from corporate to higher education is a big adjustment. Sometimes things move at an incredibly slow pace.

    Advice to Management

Listening tours could be valuable for new employees so they can fully understand the political atmosphere in the immediate environment they are working in on a day-to-day basis. Setting a foundation to understand the current environment and interactions allows for future success of a new employee.
