I have been working at University of Michigan part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Wonderful location, good benefits once you're full-time. I know time off depends on which department you are employed for, but I was promised 12 vacation days/year

    Cons

I have a Bachelor's degree and my offered salary was 30K. I could do the same thing (manage a lab) at another university for way more money and that's taking cost of living into consideration as well. Custodial staff is general paid 30K

    Advice to Management

You have billions and billions of dollars to spend. Use it to pay your employees a wage that allows them to live in the city and have some disposable income. That, or substantially lower your standards for employees.

I have been working at University of Michigan part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Compared to other research universities, University of Michigan has some of the best benefits for graduate students, including low to no copays on health insurance, full dental insurance, and a strong graduate student union.

    Cons

For many graduate students (I'm in STEM), work-life balance doesn't exist.

    Pros

People are very nice, and management is friendly.
Great benefits and emphasis on work-life balance

    Cons

Lack of career development, bureaucratic and slow to change, hiring process is slow

    Advice to Management

Allow more movement of staff among different departments / projects would be beneficial for employee development and balancing work / resources / budgets

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at University of Michigan part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Access to the facilities and software access outside of work for personal endeavors.

    Cons

My co-workers tended to be incompetent (constantly blaming one another if something went wrong instead of resolving the issue together).
There was a huge lack of communication skills on all fronts.
    HR absolutely sucks.
After being laid off in December, it took them almost 2 months to take me off payroll.

    Advice to Management

Replace management at the facility I worked in. Engineers should not be running media centers and PhDs that do not understand how multimedia works should not be running video projects.
