    Pros

Nice campus, nice people, very centrally located in Minneapolis. I am proud to let other people know that I work there.

    Cons

Parking is expensive and limited depending on where you work. It seems like there is always construction going on somewhere.

Great job, but my specific experience may not be representative

    Pros

Independent workplace with little micromanagement. Brilliant, successful colleagues who are a pleasure to work with. Flexible work schedule. Fantastic benefits. Competitive salary.

    Cons

I am the youngest employee at my level in the division by at least 20 years. Being such a large university, it often can seem as if you're inside your own little bubble separate from the rest of the university. Parking is expensive and rigid (i.e. cannot get a permit only for winter).

    Pros

Great learning environment and opportunity to advance your skills. Was given the opportunity to transfer departments after a couple years to focus on something new. If you can invest the time (on-call and holiday shifts) you can learn a lot. Great place to pursue your VTS. Worked with some very good people. (Techs, Doctors and support staff) Good pay and benefits for the profession. Accumulate good amount of sick and vacation time.

    Cons

There were times of high turnaround. Being short staffed made it difficult to get time off. Certain departments do not have as many job opportunities. Less work/life balance working in 24/7 departments. Have to pay for parking on campus. Parking and transportation services can be difficult and rude. Occasional problems with payroll, inaccuracies on my paycheck during a time of restructuring pay periods. Payroll in my building was very nice and tried to be helpful but it was above her. Payroll at central was very difficult to communicate with.

    Pros

The office environment at the University of Minnesota Networking and Telecommunication department is very flexible for the student workers they hire. My managers and other employees were always very approachable and LOVED showing you how to do things and were always very appreciative of any help they received from the student workers. Plus the office did fun lunch activities like chili contests and pot lucks. What student worker (or any employee for that matter) doesn't like free food!?
