I worked at University of Missouri full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Focus on wellness and benefits; had great leaders when I started

    Cons

All of those great leaders are gone through termination, layoffs, retirements, etc. There is no positive leadership remaining and the VP has been "interim" for years now. HRIS functions as an IT unit, not an HR team. This was the least professional HR team I have seen with people hiding behind others when they don't know what to do. If you want to work for HR, go to a campus or or hospitals.

    Advice to Management

Stop terminating your top performers and people with loyalty to the organization; you have effectively wiped out the institutional knowledge of HR. I have never heard of Tim Wolfe; he must be new.

I have been working at University of Missouri full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Really do not enjoy my job except for the flexible schedule

    Cons

To much stress and work and not enough pay for what we are required to do.

    Advice to Management

Work to move your employees to a hirer position and make them better.

I have been working at University of Missouri full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good pay and good benefits

    Cons

Micro management , once you hit a certain age they start weeding you out and do not allow you to continue furthering your career . If you hit fifty before you hit your goal you will not get to your careers goal.

    Advice to Management

Micro management does not make a good work environment. Discrimination against people over 40is against the law.

I worked at University of Missouri part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The recreation center is stellar, and the city is relatively small and pleasant. There doesn't seem to be much racial prejudice on campus.

    Cons

There is nobody in charge: tenured faculty do whatever they want, disregarding University policy whenever they want, and the University does nothing. Students are treated like they are children. Academic records have been "lost" at critical times (e.g. just before graduation). Bizarre thing happened, like a tenured journalism faculty blocked reporters from doing their job, and certain students with possibly untrue agendas banded together to get people fired. Not a happy place to work.

    Advice to Management

Students and non-tenured faculty/staff need to be treated with respect, and need to be "heard".

I worked at University of Missouri full-time

    Pros

Furthering Higher Education, Great Healthcare Benefits

    Cons

Low Pay, Poor Leadership, Threatening Environment, Not Strategic, Secretive

    Advice to Management

Create an open-door policy, bring more constituents to the actual decision making table, watch out for your interim HR leadership.

I worked at University of Missouri as an intern

    Pros

some decent supervisors that were willing to teach you what you didn't know as an intern

    Cons

poor training and support for new staff, some supervisors misused their powers to mold interns into their own puppet vs. training them develop their own professional identity

I have been working at University of Missouri full-time

    Pros

great health benefits, well at least it started out that way

    Cons

benefits are chipped away in financial struggle, raise freeze for all but 2 years of my 15 year tenure, security in your job however that is true for all employees regardless of job performance which makes getting the job done for those who care about the job difficult

    Advice to Management

Invest in the employees who invest n the organization and cut the dead weight and things will run much smoother and morale will improve greatly.

    Pros

Compensated with room and meal plan, you meet great people, and you get to print things for free from the RAP office

    Cons

Several Hall Coordinators are awful to work with, Peer Advisors aren't compensated extra for having to teach your FIG, compensation per hour worked actually adds up to less than minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Standardize your practices across the different res halls so everyone involved knows what to expect, and make sure your PAs are compensated better than CAs!
