I have been working at University of Missouri full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible time is a great perq. Benefits are good but have questionable future outlook. Strong encouragement for healthy living has been well implemented and supported.

    Cons

Higher ups don't appreciate the temporary nature of the research position and occasionally prohibit PIs from implementing pay raises that are written into grants.

I have been working at University of Missouri full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Always learning something new. Human Resources is always changing so where someone would think it is the same work day in and day out, it's really not.

    Cons

There really aren't any cons. Parking could be a con. Things are moving at such a fast pace that it would be nice to have a day to get caught up, but it's still exciting.

    Advice to Management

    N/A

I worked at University of Missouri (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I was a graduate assistant and instructor. It was a great learning experience and I was able to land my current position based on my research experience.

    Cons

The pay for grad asst's is not great. No one expects that. However, the kerfuffle with the insurance happened shortly after I left and even before that, health insurance was a high-deductible nightmare. Arts and Science also is cracking down on moonlighting. The last two years I was there, getting a second job could have cost me my fellowship and assistantship.

    Advice to Management

Proving a better graduate healthcare option would improve morale. The more you chip away at student services (in particular, mental health, which most grad students use), the harder it becomes. The university is generally a good place to work but this is a problem.

I worked at University of Missouri part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good job, nice people, nice boss

    Cons

Some people that you call are jerks. At the same time, some people are great! And once in a while you end up calling the parents of a friend.

I have been working at University of Missouri full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The health care insurance that uses the university health care system is very comprehensive in its coverage and there are many specialists available.

    Cons

Due to declining enrollment and budget cuts, the faculty are having to take on larger class sizes and staff is worried about layoffs. Thus the atmosphere is somewhat stressful. The university recently increased the cost of health insurance for future retirees.

    Advice to Management

Work harder to develop career paths for staff positions.
