I have been working at University of Montana part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very flexible with students, employees are close and care for each other, positive environment

    Cons

Laid back and sometimes didn't fit with my ambitious personality

    Advice to Management

Make sure to treat student workers kindly -- it helps a lot with turnover.

I have been working at University of Montana full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Beautiful campus located near the Clark Fork River. Pay/salaries are notoriously low but nearly unbeatable health benefits and a generous retirement match help to balance it out.

    Cons

After the sexual harassment scandals and with the current budget crises, the overall mood of UM is depressing and gloomy. Employees having to pay for parking passes...In a handful of years, once UM returns to its former glory, it will be a much better place to be!

    Advice to Management

Good luck with surviving APASP and the budget issues. I would not want to be you.

I worked at University of Montana part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very supportive environment. My time at the University of Montana was very rewarding. The faculties are very accessible and eager to share their experience.

    Cons

No job security for adjunct professors. The contracts are only for one semester at the time and there are only fewer options to have a career as an adjunct if any.

    Advice to Management

The management should work on having more students at the college. The University seems unable to reverse the decrease in enrollment.

    Pros

sense of community; good town and gown relationship; beautiful campus and region; access to recreation and national parks; good transportation and high quality of life.

    Cons

lacks diversity; relatively high air fare costs; subject to air quality decent secondary to regional and national, international wildfires; cold wet winters and above average cloudy days especially in winter.

    Advice to Management

adjust tuition to meet budgetary need; seek stronger public and private partnerships to advance initiatives; diminish emphasis on centralized administration.
