I have been working at University of Montana full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunities are everywhere to do new things in Missoula and around campus. I personally have been able to move up whenever I am ready! I love being an employee and working at UM!

    Cons

Budgets go up and down, positive experiences can be as contagious as negative ones.

    Advice to Management

The Admissions office is the key to UM's survival. When it is healthy, UM will grow as much as it needs to.

I worked at University of Montana (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Easy going work environment
    - Very flexible with student schedules
    - Nice to work with people my age
    - Flat org structure

    Cons

    - Boring job and daily activities
    - Definitely what one would consider to be a dead end job
    - No real opportunities for advancement, not very applicable in my degree

    Advice to Management

Management should definitely look for ways to give students more exposure to management situations and opportunities. Even though the culture is flat, I still wish I had more chances to try out managing.

I have been working at University of Montana part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Excellent hours
    - Excellent perks
    - Great opportunity to build staff relationships
    - Looks great on a resume

    Cons

    - Poor senior management
    - Poor outlook on university enrollment
    - Poor communication down the chain of command

    Advice to Management

Look into other options to increase enrollment. Advise UM Residence Life to communicate better with lower staff and to take initiative to fill empty employee spots.

I worked at University of Montana part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It was great to get some hands on experience creating videos and motion graphics. You didn't just sit back and help with miniscule tasks. You got to actually have meetings with clients, write scripts, film and edit.

    Cons

Sometimes it felt as if you were being micromanaged, and received 'check ins' too often to be efficient.

    Advice to Management

Give the students soft deadlines as to when you want to see progress, and then let them come to you, instead of constantly checking in on them.
