I worked at University of Nebraska Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent starting wage for a security department

    Cons

Some of the SO's think they're police officers, which they're not. Morale was low. Some people did a lot of work while others did basically nothing.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the SO's there who obviously hate their jobs.

I have been working at University of Nebraska Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

UNMC, depending on the department you are in, offers a flexible schedule, and standard hours. The perks of the job are good, with insurance, employee and dependent educational credits, and good networking.

    Cons

Management of a few department falls upon people who have been there the longest rather than people who are qualified. The pay is generally lower as well for certain jobs than what you could get elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, morale can often get low and it is up to you to commit to fixing the problem instead of sweeping it under the rug and wait for it to blow over.

I have been working at University of Nebraska Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent training and progression into management opportunities. Great teamwork and coworkers.

    Cons

Leads taking full staff at this point, acuity level of patients in a trauma center getting ridiculous for RN to patient ration of 5:1 nights, 4:1 days. Staff if short always. Two new CEOs in two years. New CNO is absent with RNs worries. 3 hrs PTO earned per pay period not enough.

    Advice to Management

Our patients are very sick and require better ratios on the staff floors. Neuro for example. Please have the CNO come work a night shift taking full or load with only coworkers and care tech's to assist. I'd be willing to bet she would come to realise our complaints are not just complaints. Patient safety first.

I have been working at University of Nebraska Medical Center part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

We are a small research unit in the College of Medicine but it is really wonderful. My PI couldn't be nicer or more understanding and the medical students and interns we work with are very astute.

    Cons

The downside is that my current position is only part-time. I would be happy to work there full time.

    Advice to Management

I appreciate the flexibility that comes along with this job. There is a lot of room for asking questions and thinking creatively. I appreciate that my PI does not try to micro-manage my work.
