    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at University of Nebraska full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I suppose the facility is nicely equipped, and it is relatively stress free. The sub-urban campus makes getting around very easy.

    Cons

Pay is incredibly low. Far below NIH standards. Parking is very expensive.

    Pros

Some of the people I worked with were really great and I really enjoyed the environment.

    Cons

Management was/is pretty unbearable. Pay is low and benefits are average.

    Advice to Management

Provide a platform for employees to offer feedback without fear of retribution. Also, some anger management courses may help curb the temper tantrums.

    Pros

Decent benefits package and generous amount of time off/sick leave is provided. Very flexible working hours and telecommuting is an option for some jobs.

    Cons

Low pay compared to industry. Central IT is in desperate need of reorganization. The amount of time it takes to fire nonproductive and troublesome employees causes senior management to ignore problems rather than take the time to deal with them. In some cases, troublesome employees get *promoted* (with an increase in title and pay) out of a department as a way of dealing with the problems they cause.

    Advice to Management

Yes, this is a public institution, but being paid less than comparable state jobs is an insult. If it isn't possible to pay wages comparable to industry, the least senior management could do is to pay wages comparable to our state government colleagues.

    Pros

Plenty of vacation, and sick leave. Low pressure, low stress and casual workplace.
Plenty of time in the work day to socialize, and catchup on office gossip.

    Cons

Low pay, Unmotivated people. Huh, is that a cause and effect.

    Advice to Management

Have the balls to fire some of those useless people.
Everyone seems to get the usual 3% yearly raise, and the difference between a satisfactory performance review and an outstanding one is 0.5%. That's not really an incentive to work hard.
