I worked at University of North Alabama full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Inexpensive area to live, working with students

    Cons

Extremely difficult to get hired here unless you know the right people, office politics is a big problem, faculty pay scale is set across the university based on academic rank which means that some faculty are overpaid for their areas (humanities) while others are underpaid (business, sciences)

    Pros

You work with Good, Friendly people
There is Decent Pay, and no shortage of hours to work
    Friendly people

    Cons

THey can be slow to respond to suggestions, and things take time. It takes a long time to fill a role or need on the team

    Advice to Management

Become more effecient. Try and tighten up processes to keep people happy. More teambuilding sponsored by the university.

I worked at University of North Alabama part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Safe and friendly location, near the beautiful Tennessee River and downtown Florence, AL, which is small but lively. Big annual blues and Renaissance festivals. Great restaurants and shops within walking distance of campus.

    Cons

Under-resourced chemistry department. Low pay for adjuncts (that's nothing new anywhere). Lecture and lab courses could be better coordinated. Not enough healthy food options on campus. Some parts of campus don't feel entirely safe at night.

    Advice to Management

Please heat the labs adequately! Coordinate pre-lab lecture and lab spaces so that they are physically closer to one another. Give adjuncts the entrance keys to department offices, so they can access it on weekends.

  10. "Great university family!"

    Pros

Small campus, easy to navigate, friendly & helpful folks, great connection with local community, easy access for staff & local residents.

    Cons

Paperwork traffic, rules, guidelines & expectations not always clear; small-town attitude that "everybody knows that" and "it's how we've always done it;" pay not on par with other state schools.

    Advice to Management

Imagine yourself to be a new employee who knows NOTHING about the school or the area: What do you need to know?
