    Pros

The university is full of well-educated professors from around the world and is bilingual. Courses are offered in both English and french.

    Cons

As a research assistant the salaries are really low and there is no supervision on supervisors. many supervisors pay very low amount to talented and hard-working students and take the advantage with minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

I think there should be a website/system which rates the supervisors. There are some supervisors who not only humiliate their postdocs and employees but also abuse the scientific potential of researchers.

    Pros

Good salary, and some interesting projects available to work on.

    Cons

Toxic culture. Lots of turnover during big projects. Terrible management in highest positions. Former CEO was a nightmare. Massive overhaul of legacy SIS system was a complete failure and waste of money, poorly planned. Ridiculous deadlines. Probably not so bad to work at when not dealing with a big project.

Benefits, flexible hours, gym and sports facilities

    Cons

Obnoxious and political Management, low salary, no training, internal recruiting based on seniority and not on skills or performence, no way for career evolution

    Advice to Management

Stop caring about you and yourself only .. there is lots of other people called employees.
Stop the political aspect for a minute and listen for once ... employee are in the front line.

I have been working at University of Ottawa as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some profs are well known in their fields. The campus is in a nice location and the city is quiet chill.

    Cons

Excessive bureaucracy. Administration staff members are very rude in all departments of the university (they have no idea about customer service). Grad students are under-appreciated by the management and have to pay outrageous tuition fees. Upper management prefers to pursue superficial PR campaigns rather than initiatives that improve student experiences at the university

    Advice to Management

Stop prioritizing bilingualism over customer service training for your administration staff. Treat your grad students better; they enhance the university's reputation

    Pros

Working with intelligent people, great benefits and a beautiful campus to work in.

    Cons

A culture of nepotism + low pay = very mediocre management and senior staff

    Advice to Management

Start hiring leaders who are interested in collective goals for the institution instead of your golf buddies

    Pros

Stable - mostly, rarely is anyone ever laid off.

    Cons

poor advancement opportunities - unless politically connected.

    Advice to Management

I think many of the management are self-serving and lack client focus ( students are the clients).
