I have been working at University of Pennsylvania full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The University is a wonderful setting with great benefits. The opportunity for advance is great at the mid-level.

    Cons

Hard to be promoted to Director level. Low pay scale for internal candidates.

    Advice to Management

Provide career tracks. Make leadership skills a requirement of management. Managers treat it as a second thought, not a priority.

I worked at University of Pennsylvania part-time

    Pros

My manager was excellent - she cared about me, and my career development, and made an effort (beyond her job description) to give me really helpful career advice. Other managers within the department were great also, and all the employees really help each other out and work as a team. Culture is great, supportive rather than competitive, and everyone gets to leave right at 5 every day.

    Cons

Penn's billing system is a little jacked up - they give you a card and your paychecks go on the card until you set up direct deposit, so your first paycheck might be on this weird card. I was told they are working on changing it though.

I got a strange corrupt/illuminati vibe. Felt like some of the research projects and initiatives they were working on in my same department were completely unnecessary and already proven scientifically to be ineffective and even detrimental to the population. Felt like there was a push behind everything, but nobody was questioning anything. It was very odd.
