I worked at University of Pennsylvania full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, decent pay. Many opportunities to move into different positions and different departments.

    Cons

Work culture somewhat cold, sanitized, where people can't be real with each other. There was a firm hierarchy that did not seem transparent and did not allow for employee input.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent. Seek input from employees and then utilize that input. Offer more flexibility to employees in terms of work hours and such.

I worked at University of Pennsylvania full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Provides valuable experiences, from working with colleagues with institutional knowledge and opportunities to learn from staff with advanced and specialized skill sets. From top-down, a spirit of innovation, collaboration and helping others flourishes in a strong culture and work environment.

    Cons

I would say addressing and attempting to overcome cultural perceptions about the organization from the local community and other working professionals. Providing access and encouraging more residents from the local community to utilize its vast resources, including its facilities and academic programs, would help in maintain positive relationships and strengthen ties with the community.

    Advice to Management

    More networking opportunities.

    Pros

As an elite university, Penn offers a wide range of opportunities and connections. Your career can easily grow within Penn or provide you with the connections to grow outside of it.

    Cons

As a university, what you will do is greatly varied and experience will vary as a result.

I have been working at University of Pennsylvania full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Competitive, but great working environment. Relationships with other fellows and students makes every day wonderful. Great relationships with mentors. Lots of opportunity to collaborate with others to advance my research. Good health benefits.

    Cons

I am fortunate to make a higher salary, but when I first arrived, the salary was barely above the national average. The cost of living in Philadelphia is higher, so salary should be comparable. Work-life balance is challenging in a very competitive environment.
