    Pros

In my opinion the staff for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences created a positive environment and wrte committed to the students and their success. The benefits were incredible until last year when UOP decided against being self insured due to ACA (Obamacare)and joined forces with other corporations to save money therefore cost for employees went up and coverage went down. (Like many corporations)

    Cons

In my opinion, since 2010 when ACA was passed, instead of focusing on healthcare, education was wrapped up in the middle of the bill and a bullseye stamped on its back causing unintentional consequences. The trickle down affect forced upper management to chase it's tail instead of focusing on the student and their core beliefs. Over the years many layoffs have occurred, very stressful not knowing when you would be handed a box without a clear distinction of criteria.

Started off like a dream job & then gradually turned into a nightmare...

    Pros

Excellent tuition benefits, healthcare package, paid holidays, always had nights & weekends off, consistent schedule, great experience with corporate culture, wonderful for enhancing computer skills

    Cons

There was very little opportunity for advancement. When opportunity was presented, it was almost always a lateral move. Within the duration of my 4 years of employment, I interviewed for 4 other positions (all after approximately 1.5 years as a top performer) before I finally received an offer. I also had to work in the new position for 3 months prior to the offer, and I was only offered $200. per year pay increase in this new position. Major changes took place so often that one might question the stability of the company. Due to the constant change, there was almost no continuity within performance expectations. Job positions were constantly being restructured, so employees rarely had the opportunity to master their skills & feel good about knowing how to do their job well. Everything depended how compatible you were with your direct supervisor. I was a top performer who was very well known for my positive contributions for the first 3 out of 4 years. In that time, I had 5 different managers. All were excellent except the last one. The last manager I had was extremely excessive with micromanagement. We would have weekly '1 on 1' meetings in a private office where nobody could hear what was being said. If I had conflicting core values with my manager, these meetings would go for hours. There was very little support from upper management when conflict arose with my direct supervisor. As a result, my performance plummeted within about 6 months. In short, my last manager 'coached' me into a bad employee to the extent that I knew I had to resign in order to keep from eventually getting terminated.

    Pros

I met some great people, co-workers and students.

    Cons

The upper management does not care at all about their employees. The guidelines are constantly changing, there is no opportunity for advancement, and there is absolutely no support from management. I had one on-on-one in nine months, and watched the company manipulate policies in order to take money away from both students and employees. The pay is good, but that is the only good thing that I can say about this company.

    Pros

Great benefits package! Tuition discount! Friendly coworkers!

    Cons

Managers and upper management guidlines are inconsistent throughout the University. What is okay for one division is not okay for another with upper management changing rules. Negative attitude and individuals in management out for themselves.

Good pay, nice time off after hitting some tenure. Challenging work

Upper management vision seems reactionary. Not much confidence that leadership is doing right things to prevent future layoffs.

    Pros

Freedom to grow while making mistakes with supportive management at regional level. Great team mates also makes the day go by faster.

    Cons

The fast pace sometimes leaves one's head spinning. For that , one can adjust appropriately. Upper management often struggles to provide clear goals that align with the University's mission and values statements.

    Pros

Good compensation and workload was managable if you were willing to out in the effort. Pay and insurance were reasonable in comparison to competitors.

    Cons

A lot of politics in upper management and the company is losing students so there were several continued layoffs throughout the company. Hard to move up the chain of command unless you had an 'in' with upper management.
