I worked at University of Puget Sound part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Note: This review is for a Resident Community Coordinator position that compensates student workers with free room (similar to a Resident Assistant) and should not be misinterpreted as a Resident director or similar paid, full-time position review.

-Fantastic support for those employed by Resident life from coworkers, resident directors, and other campus offices

-Opportunities to create and develop new events and programs for residents

-A good balance of work duties with student life

    -Paid housing

    Cons

    -Meal plan not included

-Uneven work load, part of the job is availability to residents, and a resident crisis doesn't always come at a convenient time

    Advice to Management

-At times the extensive training sessions in the Fall can get quite tedious. I think having more student presenters helps.

I worked at University of Puget Sound (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent location, Academic and Caring Students' Support Services in Counseling, Health Services, Athletics, CO-OP Education, Internship, Careers, Planning and Placement Programs.

    Cons

Lack of sensitivity to the needs of Student Affairs and Services' professionals.

    Advice to Management

Assess and Re-Evaluate Employees for their Merit and Worth of their value to the students, Institution and its communities, rather than on a personality rating scale.

I worked at University of Puget Sound (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent community, highly supportive, It can be hard to fill the entire shift as an office assistant so it's best to check in for new tasks frequently or study

    Cons

hours can be an issue if you and another student have incompatible schedules to wherever your workstudy is, the library needs to look at schedules and stop favoring upperclassmen. Everybody is studying, everybody is entitled to the hours through work study

    Advice to Management

Make scheduling easier for those with a heavy class load

I have been working at University of Puget Sound part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Accommodating supervisors when it comes to student needs (studying, other jobs, etc.)
    - Fair interviews
    - Decent pay (above minimum wage)

    Cons

    - Sometimes understaffed
    - Students are sometimes given too much responsibility and they are either not meeting the standards or get overwhelmed (depends on the department)
    - Difficult for departments to hire based on experience, they pretty much hire on how friendly you are

I worked at University of Puget Sound (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The University is an amazing institution of higher learning in the liberal arts fields. I and have thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with students, staff and faculty and enjoyed my work and am proud of my accomplishments

    Cons

While a degree at the university is coveted and they do provide almost free tuition for full time employment, the pay scales are far below what other institutions are currently paying. And management, at least where I worked, provided absolutely no flexibility in work schedules as to take any classes towards finishing a degree.

    Advice to Management

HR is well organized and are always very helpful as are payroll . Most of the professors I have been in contact with are engaging and will take a minute to discuss topics of interest. Even the President Ron Thomas would always stop and chat with me. I took several classes and very much enjoyed them. However head management at least in facilities is the most unprofessional I have encountered in my field as a custodian with my background and experience.

    Pros

Great environment to help mentor and support the leaders of tomorrow. The environment supports on campus life and promotes the development of students.

    Cons

Heavy deadlines in the some departments to keep moving forward, with no end in sight. If you like a go, go, go, environment, this may be for you.

    Advice to Management

Nothing at this time. The management style there hasn't changed in years.
