    Pros

This job offers the following pros: Positive work environment; flexible schedule; great colleagues, student body is generally great to work with

    Cons

Salary is not as high as state institution or R1 institution. Administration sometimes functions as top-down hierarchy with little input from faculty

    Pros

Good people ....nice hard working people is several areas ... clean environment ... quiet campus ...not a lot of employees... can get boring.

    Cons

Management is not very good at the director level. A lot of micro-management. A bit behind the times in management of employees and how departments are run.

    Advice to Management

Management should not treat good hard working people as expendable especially when most of the salaries can fall well below competitors!

I have been working at University of Saint Joseph part-time

    Pros

Very friendly staff, great working environment. Gorgeous campus; extremely safe. I love the variety of people you get to talk to when working as a nutrition educator. Very rewarding job.

    Cons

Getting to the University through Hartford can be challenging but if you give yourself enough time to get there it isn't too bad. Parking isn't ideal but not terrible.

    Advice to Management

Make sure the grant that is required for snap ed is done well in advance and try to complete everything significantly ahead of time so there are no issues in pay. Also, create a company card where you can purchase food for the food demos so the money doesn't have to go out of the educators pockets.

I have been working at University of Saint Joseph (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Slow-paced environment..... that's about it.

    Cons

Management is over the top, seems to over play the job. Terrible uniforms, terrible pay, everything was misrepresented when initially signing on. No pay increases unless union negotiates a new contract, every 2 years. 1 year probation before you're in the union officially, and they still take dues during that year.
Management reserves the right (and will) to change your job description and location and add expenses on you at any point, you have no choice.
    Gross favoritism from management.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like they are human beings.

I worked at University of Saint Joseph (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was professionally accomplished and then head-hunted for the Executive Assistant position at the Wadsworth Atheneum. I felt that personally and professionally this was a position I was to accept and pursue, I excelled in two writing tests and showed examples of my organizational and communciation skills and was hired within 2 days.

    Cons

    Low pay, loved my job

I worked at University of Saint Joseph full-time

    Pros

Very welcoming community, phenomenal retirement benefits, small department staff numbers allow employees to be involved in many different projects and learn new skills, students are wonderful to work with, the support staff for all departments are pleasant and willing to support each other

    Cons

Individual professional development is lacking and formal mentorship is virtually non-existent, internal and external organizational messaging is not always consistent and departments often do not communicate with each other making simple tasks harder

    Advice to Management

Create ways to cut through the bureaucracy that impedes progress by reviewing long standing processes, and continue to create opportunities for employees to support each other through development and training

    Pros

University of Saint Joseph offers a great work-life balance and management treats all individuals with respect. Many offices are understaffed so you will be very busy, but it's good to have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, with varying levels of difficult. USJ offers 100% tuition reimbursement to full-time employees and a great 403B match program.

    Cons

low salary, little room for advancement

    Pros

quality of students, good communications, respect for faculty, good compensation. A growing off-campus program for master's degree candidates and adjunct faculty- good academic rigor.

    Cons

Syllabi are sometimes a bit outdated and need to be reworked. Off campus programs make no distinction between full schedule classes and 8 week classes even though there is a lot less non-class time to complete work.

    Pros

Working with the students is wonderful. Most of the students are extremely courteous and grateful for the assistance they receive. The campus is also very pretty.

    Cons

There is a serious lack of communication between departments.

    Advice to Management

Measures need to be made to foster better communication on campus. Staff feel at odds with each other.
