I have been working at University of Scranton full-time for more than 5 years

            Pros

There are some really good people here. Pay is mediocre but vacation time and 401K contributions are generous. Nice facilities.

            Cons

Elitists thrive here. Recognition and praise are reserved only for those in the upper echelon(s) of the university. There are some severe cultural inconsistencies across the various divisions of this institution. Expectations are unrealistic. Lack of respect and civility in staff and faculty interactions. There is a serious lack of alignment between mission and values and how that plays out in the campus community. Don't...

Current Employee - Professor in Scranton, PA

I have been working at University of Scranton full-time for more than 10 years

              Pros

For the most part the institution really embraces its Jesuit identity, with all its implications. There is a fairly strong sense of cohesion among faculty in at least two of the colleges, a real care for the wellbeing of students, a genuine engagement with issues of social justice, considered in a historically broad sense. Salaries are very good for a place that is cheap to live. Benefits are excellent.

              Cons

We are not immune to the proliferation of administrators that that is absolutely endemic in the academy: much wasteful bureacratic flappery and some degree of self-serving pusillanimity. The Admissions department is a little fiefdom, with seemingly little sense of responsibility to the identity of the institutition.

              Advice to Management

The Ignation tradition has hundreds of years at its back. We don't need to get hysterical about the academic trend-du-jour. when difficult decisions have to be made, be brave and trust the mission.
