I have been working at University of Southern Indiana full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers are fantastic, and the campus is beautiful. Full time employees receive free tuition for 12 credit hours a year.

    Cons

Little opportunity for advancement, no preference for experienced internal applicants for higher paying staff positions.

I worked at University of Southern Indiana full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Secure position with excellent benefits.

    Cons

Unless tenured or tenure-track, zero upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

Needs to reevaluate their hierarchical style, which currently produces poor overall working environment.

"I loved my job at the University of Southern Indiana because I liked working with the students and helping them."

I worked at University of Southern Indiana full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I learned a lot from working here.
I loved the diversity of the students.
I felt satisfied when helping students who needed help.

    Cons

Although I loved my job, they don't pay too well.
They don't promote from within too much.

    Advice to Management

I was always looking for ways to make my job better but it wasn't wanted. You don't care if people do a good job; just as long as people show up for work and not make waves is the most important thing for you.

I have been working at University of Southern Indiana full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The administration is proactively supportive of the development of their faculty. The campus is constantly growing, providing a beautiful and progressive atmosphere.

Salaries are well below comparable median salaries.

    Pros

Good pay in comparison to other summerstock theatres.

    Cons

Lack of foresight from senior management makes it difficult at the worker bee level. Bugs are also giant sized in Indianna.

    Advice to Management

Plan things so that your employees' time is utilized well and a safe working environment is maintained.

  8. "Great faculty, students okay, teaching load heavy"

    Pros

The faculty members are great--very personable and have been helpful in my transition into the university. The students are willing to learn, typically fairly motivated. Classes are on the small side as it is a small state university

    Cons

Not a lot of guidance when starting. Teaching load is high. Tenure requirements unclear. Students do not write well and this is a looked over skill in many introductory-level courses.

I have been working at University of Southern Indiana full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent benefits, especially the tuition waiver and generous holiday off time. Friendly location working with great students and some higher ups who really love their job.

    Cons

Impossible to move up into anything substantial without proving you intend to be a "lifer", low salary for support staff and limited academic options (tuition waiver is only good for the school).

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees what they deserve and they'll stop leaving so quickly. So many people work there less than a year before they start talking about leaving.

    Advice to Management

Minimum-wage pay. Boss was difficult to work with. Almost impossible to get anything done because of politics.
