Feb 7, 2023 - Program Manager in Minneapolis, MNRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Strong sense of community. Ideologically diverse. Very well-resourced compared to other universities. Rob Vischer and Eddy Rojas are phenomenal leaders. You can find many smart and talented people doing cool things across campus.
Cons
Many things become exhausting after a while: the class divide between faculty and staff, ideological diversity, microaggressions, Minnesota winter. Health insurance was just re-negotiated with United Healthcare, which is a horrible company to work with. If you are a POC or queer, make sure that the coworkers in your department are people with whom you want to work. Even though tuition remission is 100% for most programs, UST tuition is so high that tax payroll deductions can become insane. For example, after taking a J-Term and Spring class, the deduction was $375 per paycheck to cover the taxes on a summer MBA. If you are planning to use the tuition remission benefit for a master's or doctoral degree, read up on IRS requirements for taxable tuition remission and do the math yourself. Payroll will not give you information about what they are deducting until AFTER they do it.

Pros
I loved working with the group of students and professors providing research and analysis in order to create the final project of a documentary. They were very flexible and understanding when it came to balancing school and work in terms of deadlines interacting with things like mid-terms and finals. Overall I'm very happy to have had this opportunity working for the school and these professors.
Cons
The only negative thing I have to say about this position is there was sometimes a lack of consistency in work flow and assignments which was difficult at times.
