      Pros

      The hours vary depending on your supervisor, but they're usually not intensive. As with most academic jobs you're not asked to do much. Your supervisors never held real jobs, so don't ask much from you.

      Cons

      Unless you receive a multi-year package it's very difficult to get your funding renewed. The school's internal rules stipulate that if you're on a one-year funding package you cannot receive new funding until all of the next year's first-year grad students receive funding. I understand why this exists in the case of people with extended funding packages, they don't want people receiving 10-15 years of funding while new...

      Low wages for adjuncts and non-tenure track faculty. Classes too large.
