Most Departments Fine Except for School of Dentistry
Dec 9, 2015 - Lab Technician in Salt Lake City, UTRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The health benefits at the University of Utah seem to be very good. The Cobra equivalent costs $1,500/month for a 3 person family.
Cons
Like I said in my title, the University of Utah is a fairly good place to work, but the School of Dentistry is a terrible work environment. A lot of the dental assistants there LOVE gossiping, back-stabbing, demeaning other co-workers, students, and staff, and they freely commit HIPAA violations to satisfy their curiosity. It was a very unprofessional work environment and very toxic, to say the least.

Solid Institution
Dec 3, 2015 - Orientation Leader in Salt Lake City, UTRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The University of Utah is a well respected and well run institution of higher learning. During my time here as a student employee, I was impressed with the institutional organization hierarchy.
Cons
Tends to pay on the lower end of the spectrum. We also worked very, very long shifts without many breaks during the summer due to a huge influx of new students needing to go through orientation.

Pros
The aspects of working here will differ greatly depending on where you work. I have a nice and understanding boss. I have a regular schedule but have never had difficulty adapting to family situations. Insurance is good. the adobe creative cloud for free is nice and is the free UTA pass.
Cons
Doesn't hire from within at the executive levels. The tuition reduction benefit is probably one of the worst in the field of higher education. Many companies in Utah make it easier for their employees to seek training and education than the University of Utah does. Classes are still very expensive. Executive level management is really political. Several individuals are constantly trying to get more feathers in their cap. The parking is terrible as is the traffic. The parking passes are expensive. Benefits for employees across higher education have improved across the country

Sep 4, 2020 - Assistant Dean in Salt Lake City, UTRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Fantastic benefits, a vibrant campus, the most amazing students. There are a variety of interesting career opportunities at the University of Utah
Cons
You will likely not make as much money as you might in the private sector. However, that is more than made up in extremely rich benefits and job satisfaction.
