I worked at University of Vermont full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

the work at UVM-CVPH is rewarding
there is a lot of work to do
    it is very fast paced
you can meet some really nice people
the in house credit union is awesome
the in house vendors are pretty sweet too
UVM-CVPH pays for you to continue your education
there is usually room for advancement

    Cons

you don't get a lot of acknowledgement for the hard work you do
the rules change frequently and are inconsistent from employee to employee
most times management does not share new info with the staff or all the staff
the health coverage has a terribly high deductible
there is an option for 403b but UVM-CVPH does not contribute
UVM-CVPH can help you financially in different ways but you have to qualify for that help
although UVM-CVPH is unionized I found SEIU 1199 to be of no help to me most of the time
a stressful job effects some people negatively and you end up having to work with a cranky pants; rain, sleet snow or shine
UVM-CVPH is very HIPAA sensitive so you might want to take a HIPAA course to protect your job

I worked at University of Vermont as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Only place to work in Burlington. And Burlington is a great place to live. There also good food trucks floating around during the lunch hour.

    Cons

You'll be a temp forever. Which means no benefits. UVM has made it its mission to squash unions and they have been largely successful

    Advice to Management

Spend more money on employees and less on adding additional Vice Presidents.
