    Pros

Good benefits, this kind of role is built on the idea of meeting the needs of grad students (as opposed to simply getting the work done as cheaply as possible). Very supportive of TAs.

    Cons

This is a student position. Not exactly something you apply for unless you're already in the system.

I have been working at University of Victoria part-time

    Pros

UVic is a beautiful campus and a nice place to spend your workweek. I'm lucky enough to work with a great team and have the opportunity to work with other departments on campus on a regular basis. Life/work balance is very good.

    Cons

it's a government/ union environment (there are 5 unions!) and it's more evident in some departments than others. If you like things to move quickly, this is probably not the right place for you.

I worked at University of Victoria full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great, supportive employer on a beautiful campus. Strong central IT department that does great service delivery across tens of thousands of users.

    Cons

Slow routes of career advancement, since there are a lot of long term union employees. Projects can get bogged down with bureaucracy and academic politics.
