I have been working at University of Washington full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Brush up on your earlier chemistry knowledge. The professors are kind and the programs are vigorous.

    Cons

I don't have a con, except maybe that not every supervisor provides pizza during grading.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

I have been working at University of Washington part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The University staff is extremely knowledgeable and educated with the importance of massage therapy to athletic performance. Schedule can be flexible and staff support is fantastic!

    Cons

Depending on how many hours and teams you woukd like to work, there are times where work weeks can be very hectic, and others where you may need to work when the University slows down for the summer.

    Advice to Management

Having a full time massage therapist would improve overall schedule g and provide more consistent treatment times with athletes.

I worked at University of Washington as an intern (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Health insurance for graduate students includes mental health care and maternity care, standard, and the dependent care is fairly cheap. The connections are pretty good, but that will depend on your advisor -- a bad advisor can kill your prospects.

    Cons

The pay barely seems to account for recent major changes in the housing market. The overhead and administration seems overbearing when dealing with grants and funding opportunities.

I have been working at University of Washington part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I'm halftime so I have a lot of time to write and finish my dissertation
My assistantship pays my tuition and so I have only had to buy books and admin fees. TAs/RAs are in a union, so we have health insurance and some job security

    Cons

Busy times, can be very busy, and there is an old saying, "If a professors asks you to work on a project with them, and you say 'no' you may not get another chance to say 'yes'". So you end up working on way to many things at once if you are not careful. The pay is generally low, even for full-time employment.

    Advice to Management

I would have appreciated a little more support to make goals that help to finish my dissertation and project more often that includes working and talking with other doctoral students, to share ideas, challenges, etc...

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere, incredible benefits, good opportunities for advancement and professional growth

    Cons

You don't need to work hard to keep your job. A lot of UW 'lifers' are adverse to change and don't have many incentives to push themselves.
