I have been working at University of Wisconsin Foundation full-time

    Pros

Excellent benefits, great manager, and lots of culture built around mentoring and finding a good fit. Ability to take on a new responsibilities and make the job your own.

    Cons

Figuring out how to build on your career progression takes a little more effort than it should, in my experience.

I worked at University of Wisconsin Foundation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Helping fundraise for UW-Madison
    - Great office space
    - Great pay
    - Motivated staff members to encourage employees to do their best

    Cons

    - No upward mobility unless you are close with the right crowd
    - Very cliquey with those who have been in business for a long time
    - No clear way to give feedback to others that are not in your team
    - Some management does not know the work their employees do on a day-to-day basis

    Advice to Management

Train management to lead, not to micro-manage.

I have been working at University of Wisconsin Foundation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The salary is great compared to smaller non-profits, the work-space has been recently updated, and the people who work here seem to care about doing a good job.

    Cons

While the beginning salary is good, raises are often small and the career progression model is not well-defined. Management does not receive feedback and if they do have reviews, their managers are slow to correct major issues.

    Advice to Management

Really manage the managers - sending them out with videos and books to manage people for the first time is not a good idea. I've experienced first-hand the detriment of a manager whose manager does not offer guidance or discipline.

I have been working at University of Wisconsin Foundation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Modern work environment, free bus pass, great location, incredibly transparent and healthy work culture

    Cons

Not the best pay, no maternity leave, no tuition assistance despite being associated with the University.

I worked at University of Wisconsin Foundation part-time

    Pros

Sociable staff leads to a fun, light-hearted work environment. Pay is good as well.

    Cons

The fundraising and cold-calling isn't for everyone, so there's a lot of turnover at this position when they hire a new batch of callers. They give you plenty of training to prepare for the job and do fun things around the call center to keep you motivated. I stuck it out and met some great people I talked to throughout college.

    Advice to Management

Continue to train and develop skills of callers.

I have been working at University of Wisconsin Foundation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Colleagues are incredible, and everyone truly cares about your well-being. Everyone is helpful, easy to work with, and professional. Pay and benefits are more than fair.

    Cons

Any career movement is solely on the employee, and one does have to work hard and press the issue for it to even be a possibility. It really should not have to be this hard. Consistency with benefits, like professional development, is lacking.

I worked at University of Wisconsin Foundation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Hands down the best place work in development in Madison. Great alumni/donors and flexible work environment and managers.

    Cons

There's been lots of change in the last few years under new leadership, which has mostly been positive. It helps to be an early adapter. However, there are always going to be some people upset by rapid change--new CRM, renovations, more defined metrics, etc.

    Advice to Management

Continue offering flexible working environment and rewarding high performers.
