    Neutral Outlook

I worked at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Convenient since it's on campus, get to know a lot other students, flexibility with scheduling

    Cons

Since there's a high turnover, management doesn't take the time to train you. This leads to you feeling lost and not being able to give people the proper information. Then when there are issues and people want to speak to management, you are supposed to act as a line of defense. A lot of responsibility for very little pay.

Pay isn't always what might be desired, but the potential experience gained may be very valuable in future job searches.

    Pros

Great department feeling. Conveniently located. Excellent benefits.

    Cons

Low pay. Some politics in the dept.

    Advice to Management

Very good experience at UMW as a graduate assistant. Since my job was union, I got full benefits and heathcare which was amazing! My salary was pretty low, but the cost of living is affordable in Milwaukee. The campus and location is great. Enjoyed lots of campus concerts and interesting clubs. Overall, I think UWM is pretty underrated!

    Pros

Fantastic staff who are willing to work around student schedules when assigning shift/office hours. Lots of opportunities for leadership/mentorship roles. Very focused on improving the overall student experience.

    Cons

Possible lower pay rate than non-institution based hourly part time jobs for students nearby.
