    Pros

    - Great sense of community within the Team
    - Exceptional pay for work that is generally easy and satisfying
    - Work shifts are arranged around your own personal schedule, so you have a choice in saying whether you can work a shift or not
    - The work environment is always friendly and accommodating, you become family with other co-workers and your employers

    Cons

    - work is sporadic, there are high and low seasons within the work calendar, but that is the nature of the position as you are primarily promoting the University to prospective students in high school, so when school is out work is low understandably.

    Advice to Management

No advice, except keep doing what you are doing

    Cons

lower salary compared to other university. Jobs in this university are quite limited. In addition, wollongong is a small city, hard to find other similar job

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at University of Wollongong full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Green campus, close to the beach, flexible hours, standard benefits for academics. Nothing really exceptional, just standard benefits most universities provide.

    Cons

Little value placed on staff, bullying is prevalent and complaints are not addressed adequately by management. Employment practices are very questionable with too many friends and family members being employed over other candidates. Pay is very average compared to other universities and there is an increasing trend to ask students to volunteer for jobs rather than employ tutors. Management is focused on being in the top 1 % without any buy in from staff. Recent restructure was handled very poorly with people being targeted and tapped on the shoulder and asked to leave before any voluntary redundancies were called. Many good people left the organisation recently, so high staff turnover should be raising the alarm.

    Advice to Management

The university needs a culture change, bullying cannot be tolerated and something needs to be done about it from the top. Management needs to be in touch with workers, communication needs to be open and transparent to rebuild trust. Please understand that your staff are the most valuable resource you have.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

    Flexible hours
    Great superannuation contribution
    Study leave available
Regular professional development opportunities and in-house training

    Cons

    Nepotism
    Ageist
    Top heavy, hierarchical decision making
Big visions for the university, small-minded controlling culture
Bullying is rife and not dealt with directly
Average pay compared to other universities
    Non-transparent management
    Past achievements/experiences are ignored

I would have given no stars if it was an option. Working here damaged my career.

    Advice to Management

They are in denial and not self aware. Progressive and innovative management styles is required, such a shared leadership/partnerships, mentoring programs, committee and democratic leadership. Don't employ inexperienced staff in management roles just because of their age or time spent working at the University.
