I have been working at Unum part-time

    Pros

So many pros. Excellent training programs, lots of company perks. Discounted movie tickets, discounted DCU Center tickets, free parking in a nice, very safe garage. Company requires ID for access so the building is very safe, even at night. Managers are understanding of school schedules. Work in a team environment.

    Cons

Limited to working 19 hours each week during the school semesters and required to work close to 40 hours during the summer, winter, and spring breaks from school. No benefits. Honestly, the pros outweigh the cons though. Excellent workplace.

    Advice to Management

Some managers of scholars are better than others.

I worked at Unum full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people are friendly, hardworking, and helpful. There is plenty of opportunity to advance within the company- whether you want to stay in one position or department and excel, or if you want to move throughout the company. Wonderful benefits, and just extremely organized as a corporation.

    Cons

There are some positions that work later shifts, however, these shifts end by 8:00 p.m. and once you gain seniority, you can work a shift that better suits your needs, if you choose.

    Advice to Management

If you would like to stay in a company for your entire career, and know that you will be able to make moves that help you towards your career goals. Unum's management is very goal oriented and they hire for their company- they want to make sure people fit the company and if you are a hard worker, they will help you achieve your career goals.

I have been working at Unum full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Strong focus on doing the right thing, making sure employees have opportunities to grow, and ensuring we make good on the promises to our customers.

    Cons

As with any large company, there is a level of having to learn to navigate the system. You have to work hard and be flexible in order to stand out. They will rate you average for just doing your job- the expectation is that you will go above and beyond if you want to be recognized.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be clear in communicating the mission and providing feedback. Help front line employees understand their role in helping the company succeed.
